Old Crafty is an uncommon off hand item. It gives a bonus to stamina.

This item is an extremely rare fish that can be caught in the city limits of Orgrimmar. The waters in the Valley of Honor and the Valley of Spirits have both been cited as sources for obtaining this elusive trophy.

Your best chance at getting this fish, while the off-hand stat bonus is still useful, is to train up your fishing skill in Orgrimmar. Use a [Shiny Bauble] lure at first. Orgrimmar requires a fishing skill (with fishing lure) of 75 to ensure that none of the fish get away, and has a skill limit up to skill 75. Each point of skill short of 75 is a percent that your catch will get away.

A method to quickly catch [Old Crafty] for higher-level characters involved a bug that appears to have been fixed in Patch 3.0.8. After obtaining the [70] Crocolisks in the City quest, go to Orgrimmar and fish in any of the bodies of water inside the city walls — make sure you have autoloot disabled. You will find that you may fish up a [Baby Crocolisk], so do not loot it, but release it and fish again. A high probability exists that your next cast will fetch a [Baby Crocolisk] and/or an [Old Crafty].

There are further complaints in some cases of people catching many [Old Crafty]s (or the Alliance equivalent fish, [Old Ironjaw]), but in some cases being unable to loot them. While petitions have been filed with GMs regarding this problem, the responses are to the effect that the functions and loot tables pertaining to fishing are working as intended.

Alliance version

The Alliance version of this fish is [Old Ironjaw] which can be caught within the city of Ironforge. These two fish are the only off hand trophy fish that give a stat bonus, both give +5 to Stamina.

Achievement

Patch 3.0.2 added Achievements including Professions achievements. In the Fishing section of the Professions achievements are two achievements, Old Crafty and Old Ironjaw.

This fits well with fulfilling the Orgrimmar half of the Fishing achievement The Fishing Diplomat, which requires you to "Fish something up in Orgrimmar and Stormwind".

Patches and hotfixes

Patch 2.3.0 (2007-11-13): These two factional trophy fish were added.
Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Achievements were added and specific achievements to catch these two factional trophy fish were added.
Patch 3.1.0 (2009-04-14): Fishing in Orgrimmar while phased for the quest [74] Fate, Up Against Your Will now yields only trash.
