Modimus Anvilmar was the high king of all the dwarves. The Bronzebeard, Wildhammer, and Dark Iron clans were united under his rule. He had closest ties to the Bronzebeard clan by blood and history.[1] When he died, the War of the Three Hammers began.
Anvilmar, the town in the Coldridge Valley where dwarf adventurers begin their quests, is named after him.
The mighty statue of King Anvilmar is found at the city gates of Ironforge. It is a massive statue nearly 100 feet high. The dwarf depicted there wore intricate chain armor and held two great hammers on high. His mouth was open in a soundless battle-cry.[2] A similar statue can also be found in the Iron Dwarf city of Thor Modan, which mirrors Ironforge in several ways.
Currently in World of Warcraft, the impressive figure of the High King faces the outer gate and the hallway just behind it. It is frozen in victorious pose, weapons raised high over his head, with a battlehammer in the right hand and a battleaxe in the left. The flightpath entering and leaving the city goes right over the statue's head. The statue's name was not actually mentioned anywhere in the game until the
[Belt Buckle with Anvilmar Crest] appeared.
The last of his male relatives, Thargas Anvilmar and Hjalmar Anvilmar, appear in the Warcraft comic. Thargas Anvilmar also appears in Dun Modr defending Thandol Span.
