The Kunchong are massive, violent, and without a question the biggest threat that pandaren have experienced in a long time.[1] Making their first appearance with the World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria expansion, these creatures are part of the mantid race.[2] It's said only Niuzao stands a chance against them, that and possibly strong heroes.[1]

Background
The cycle of Mantid birthing and building revolves around the Kunchong, a colossal insect large enough to threaten whole towns by itself. The Mantid revere this enormous creature, and when instinct compels it to stampede throughout the continent, eating earth, trees, and lakes, they follow behind, collecting the amber-colored resin it secretes, birthing their young and creating their homes in its wake. If other races’ homes are trampled by the Kunchong, it is of little consequence to the Mantid. Where the Kunchong's shadow falls, they walk. Where they walk, the land is transformed.[3] Even at a young age the kunchong are lethal.[4]
The mantid used to use force to control kunchong, but Kaz'tik the Manipulator realized that they were intelligent creatures and that his people didn't fully understand them. He thus bonded with a young kunchong named Kovok and formed a partnership with the creature.
The kunchong produce amber-colored secretions, which is utilized by the mantid to create everyday items and the more mundane pieces of mantid furniture.[5]
