Tips and Tactics

Colossus Smash is the most important new DPS Warrior ability, bar none. Against heavily-armored targets like plate-wearers in PVP and raid bosses, the damage increase from this ability can be substantial. It is imperative that a good DPS warrior keep Colossus Smash up almost all the time.

Colossus Smash has a 20 second cooldown and lasts 6 seconds, which means using the ability at the right time is vitally important. Colossus Smash should not be wasted on AOE trash, as they will not likely live long enough nor pose enough of a threat to be worth the commitment. It should also not be used on regular enemies that are about to die, as this will trigger the cooldown and stop you from using Colossus Smash on the next target. The exception, of course, is bosses, who should have Colossus Smash on them every second that it's possible to do so. Colossus Smash shines especially bright during the [Execute] phase of a raid boss fight.

Arms warriors can get the passive [Sudden Death], which gives a chance for each melee attack to reset the cooldown on Colossus Smash. With luck, this can allow Arms warriors to apply Colossus Smash back-to-back, allowing for 12 or more seconds of massive damage. Arms warriors should be careful to check that they don't already have Colossus Smash applied to a target before they spend a second one on that target as soon as they see the spell alert; clipping the duration of your Colossus Smash is a huge mistake that can cost a lot of DPS. Effects that grant Arms Warriors extra attacks, particularly their [Strikes of Opportunity] mastery, can also grant extra Colossus Smashes and therefore a lot of burst DPS.

Using Colossus Smash followed immediately by [Bladestorm] can deal a lot of damage.

Although Colossus Smash's main debuff has only a 6-second duration, it also causes the Physical Vulnerability effect, increasing physical damage taken by 4%, with a duration of 30 seconds.
