Azzinoth was the doomguard that Illidan Stormrage took the Twin Blades of Azzinoth from.
In his duel with Arthas, Illidan mentions part of the backstory of the Twin Blades of Azzinoth. The Twin Blades were the favored weapon of a doomguard — a powerful demon captain whom Illidan slew ten thousand years ago.[1]

The fire elementals known as Flame of Azzinoth and Ember of Azzinoth, which are spawned from the weapons, are somehow related to Azzinoth as well.
RPG
Azzinoth was a doomguard commander of the Burning Legion whom Illidan slew during the War of the Ancients before the Great Sundering.
Illidan slew Azzinoth, and took his weapons, a pair of vicious twin warglaives called the blades of Azzinoth. Over the millennia, Illidan trained and grew more and more adept with the demonic weapons, and has become proficient with them. He carries them still.[2]
Notes
- Azzinoth is referenced in the RPG, on the World of Warcraft website somewhat (in the name of the blades that once belonged to him),[3] and in the novel Arthas: Rise of the Lich King. Illidan's encounter with Azzinoth is an extension to the events of the War of the Ancients, but was not mentioned in any other accounts of the war. He later appeared on a TCG card.
